Description
Here in ebook 18 we’ll discuss sine testing. By the early ‘fifties, writers of “MIL specs” had decided to include the word “environmental”. More important, they had begun to measure factory, transport, storage and field usage environments. And had begun discussing the idea that those environments be simulated (and somewhat exceeded) during development of new MIL hardware. Certain paragraphs dealt with “natural” or “climatic” environments. Tests required chambers capable of temperature, altitude, humidity and other climatic stressing. To a degree, chamber technology already existed. Other paragraphs dealt with “manmade” or “dynamic” environments. Meeting those paragraphs required advanced capability shakers (beyond existing 10 to 60 Hz at very limited stroke mechanical shakers) and advanced shock test machines (beyond existing Navy 901 “hammer” machines – see ebook 30).
MIL-STD-810G is often cited by the US Army, Navy and Air Force, also by the armed services of other countries, and by numerous commercial activities. Some countries instead use IEC 60068.
